OpenAI is shutting down Sora

OpenAI announced the discontinuation on March 24, 2026. Sora 1 had already been sunset for US users on March 13, 2026, and ChatGPT's Generate Video feature was removed around the announcement — OpenAI declined to fold Sora's capabilities into ChatGPT, so there is no ongoing ChatGPT path to Sora video.

The standalone Sora web and app experiences were discontinued on April 26, 2026. The only remaining surface — the developer Videos API (Sora 2 / Sora 2 Pro) — is deprecated and scheduled to shut down on September 24, 2026, with no successor model listed.
