Both platforms expose REST APIs that accept a script and avatar identifier and return a rendered video, making them interchangeable in pipeline integrations. To migrate from D-ID API to HeyGen API: swap the base URL and auth header (D-ID uses HTTP Basic with a key from Studio account settings; HeyGen uses an x-api-key header from the API dashboard), update the request body to HeyGen's Video Generation or Video Agent schema (avatar_id, voice_id, script text), poll the returned video_id for status, and download the MP4 from the response URL. To migrate from HeyGen to D-ID: authenticate with Basic auth, target the /talks or /clips endpoint, map avatar_id to D-ID's image_url or presenter_id, and retain the same polling pattern. D-ID Visual AI Agents run as real-time conversational avatars backed by a RAG knowledge base — a user talks to the avatar and it responds live. HeyGen has no equivalent real-time agent product; the closest alternative is pre-rendering a library of scripted avatar videos that cover expected questions or topics, then presenting them through a custom UI or interactive player. To migrate from D-ID to HeyGen: identify the top knowledge-base topics the agent covers, write a script per topic in HeyGen AI Studio, render each as a standalone MP4, and wire the videos together with a branching UI in your own app. To migrate in the reverse direction (bringing a HeyGen scripted video library into a D-ID conversational agent): upload your video scripts as a knowledge base in D-ID Agents, configure an LLM, and embed the agent widget on your site — the avatar will then answer questions dynamically rather than playing fixed clips.
- Warning: Migrating from D-ID Agents to HeyGen loses real-time interactivity entirely — HeyGen produces pre-rendered video only, so the replacement requires a branching-video UI or separate conversational platform for any back-and-forth experience.

D-ID's Creative Reality Studio and HeyGen's AI Studio both serve the same no-code workflow: pick or upload an avatar, type a script, choose a voice, and render an MP4 — no camera or editing experience required. To migrate from D-ID to HeyGen: copy your script text from D-ID's editor directly into HeyGen AI Studio, select the closest matching stock avatar (both maintain large public avatar libraries), and re-select or re-clone your voice. To migrate from HeyGen to D-ID: paste your script into D-ID Studio, choose a stock AI presenter or upload the same face image, and render. Video templates do not transfer between platforms — recreate layouts manually. Downloaded MP4 files from either platform are standard files and can be re-hosted or repurposed freely.

Both tools animate a single still photo into a lip-synced talking video — D-ID calls these Instant or Expressive Avatars; HeyGen calls the equivalent Avatar IV. To move from D-ID Video Translate to HeyGen Video Translator: download your original source video (D-ID does not provide the edited output as a re-editable project), then upload it to HeyGen's Video Translator at heygen.com/translate, choose the same target language, and enable voice cloning for consistent speaker voice. To move from HeyGen to D-ID: upload the source video at d-id.com/video-translate, select the target language, and submit. In both directions keep the original source video file as the portable asset — translated outputs are re-generated, not re-editable on the new platform.
