Move your team from HeyGen to Elai.io.
Each person gets a short interview, then a personalized step-by-step guide showing exactly where their saved work, prompts, and projects land in Elai.io — and the few things that need a manual step, walked through. You send one invite; nobody becomes the help desk, and nothing in HeyGen is changed or cancelled. Want to see where you’re paying for both first? Run the free audit.
Both platforms let users pick an AI avatar, type a script, and render a finished talking-head video with no camera or studio. To move from Elai to HeyGen: export any existing scripts as text from the Elai editor (copy script text per slide), re-import into HeyGen's AI Studio by pasting the consolidated script into a new video project, and select a matching Public Avatar or a previously trained Custom Avatar. To move the other direction, copy the HeyGen script text and paste it into a new Elai project, choosing an avatar from Elai's 80+ library. Neither platform currently supports direct project-file import from the other, so script migration is text-only. Video render files (MP4) are portable and need no conversion.
- Warning: Elai gates render quality by plan (Full HD on Creator, 4K on Team+); HeyGen similarly gates resolution (1080p Creator, 4K Pro/Business). Verify your target plan before migrating to confirm resolution parity.
- Warning: Elai caps monthly render minutes by plan (15 min Creator, 50 min Team); HeyGen uses a credit system where Avatar III costs 3 credits/min and Avatar IV/V costs 20 credits/min, so high-quality HeyGen avatars are significantly more expensive to run.
- Warning: Elai includes 80+ avatars and 4 avatar types (Selfie, Studio, Photo, Animated mascot); HeyGen's stock avatar library is different and avatar style preferences will not transfer — expect to re-select on the destination side.
Both platforms expose a REST API for programmatic video generation, which is the main integration path when embedding either product in a pipeline or swapping one for the other. Elai to HeyGen: replace Elai API calls (Bearer token in header) with HeyGen API calls (x-api-key header); the HeyGen API covers avatar video generation, video translation, photo avatars, and text-to-speech — map each Elai endpoint to its HeyGen equivalent; note that HeyGen API usage is billed from a separate API-dashboard balance, not from the web-plan credits. HeyGen to Elai: generate an Elai API token in the Elai account settings and replace HeyGen API calls; Elai's API is available on all paid plans (Creator and above). Both APIs return MP4 download URLs as output. For Zapier-based no-code integrations, Elai has a native Zapier connector; HeyGen does not list a native Zapier integration, so HeyGen API calls would need to go through a custom webhook or a tool like Make.
- Warning: HeyGen API credits are a separate pay-as-you-go balance (no free credits as of February 2026; rates start at $1/min for standard avatar video); Elai's API access is included in paid plan minutes with no separate API pricing tier.
- Warning: Elai has native integrations with LMS platforms (Moodle, Thinkific, 360Learning, uQualio, Udemy) and with Articulate 360; HeyGen does not list equivalent LMS or e-learning authoring tool integrations.
- Warning: HeyGen API credits expire after 12 months; Elai plan minutes reset monthly — cost structures differ significantly for infrequent bulk usage.
Elai's Brand Kit (logo, colors, custom fonts) and personalization-at-scale variables give teams a consistent branded look across batch-rendered videos. HeyGen's Custom Avatar (digital twin) and Avatar IV photo-to-video give teams a reusable, person-specific presenter. When moving from Elai to HeyGen: recreate the brand palette inside HeyGen templates manually (HeyGen does not have a dedicated Brand Kit settings panel); build a Custom Avatar or Avatar IV in HeyGen from uploaded photos or a short training video so a specific face is always available for future videos. When moving from HeyGen to Elai: upload the brand logo and define color/font settings in Elai's Brand Kit (Team plan required); use Elai's variable fields for viewer-specific personalization instead of distinct avatar training.
- Warning: Elai's variable-based personalization at scale (batch rendering with per-viewer data) has no direct equivalent in HeyGen — HeyGen does not expose a built-in data-merge/batch personalization feature.
- Warning: Custom Avatars in HeyGen are plan-gated (1 slot Free, up to 5 Creator/Pro, up to 10 Business) and cost additional credits per training run (60 credits); Elai custom avatars (selfie avatar) start on Team plan.
- Warning: Elai Brand Kit features (custom fonts, color palette) are restricted to Team and Enterprise plans; the Creator plan does not include them.
- Warning: HeyGen Custom Expressive Motion doubles the credit cost for any scene that uses it — budget accordingly when replacing Elai personalized videos with HeyGen custom avatar videos.
Both platforms let users convert written content into a narrated avatar video. Elai to HeyGen: copy the script text from Elai's GPT-powered script editor (or export the slide narration as plain text), create a new project in HeyGen AI Studio, paste the script, choose an avatar and voice, and render. If the Elai project originated from a URL (article-to-video) or a .pptx upload, reproduce that source content as a script in HeyGen manually — HeyGen does not provide a direct URL-to-video or PowerPoint-to-video import. HeyGen to Elai: paste or type the HeyGen script into a new Elai project; alternatively, use Elai's GPT script editor to regenerate from the same source article URL or re-upload the original .pptx. Rendered MP4 files are portable between both products if you only need to archive or redistribute finished output.
- Warning: Elai's article-to-video (URL import) and PowerPoint-to-video (.pptx import) workflows have no equivalent in HeyGen — teams using those ingestion paths must adapt their content preparation workflow when moving to HeyGen.
- Warning: Elai's free tier allows only 1 minute of output per month; HeyGen's free tier allows 3 videos per month capped at 1 minute each with a 720p watermarked export — neither supports meaningful production testing at no cost.
- Warning: Elai's AI storyboard auto-breaks content into multi-slide presentations; HeyGen's AI Studio is script-centric and does not auto-segment long articles into discrete scenes.
Both platforms translate existing video content into other languages and can carry a cloned voice across the translated output. Elai to HeyGen: export the finished MP4 from Elai, then upload it (or paste a YouTube link) into HeyGen's Video Translator; choose the target language from HeyGen's 175+ supported languages and enable lip-sync mode. HeyGen will re-voice and re-sync the speaker's mouth. If voice cloning is needed, upload the voice sample inside HeyGen before running translation so the cloned voice is used in the new language track. HeyGen to Elai: download the MP4 from HeyGen, then open it in Elai's translation workflow; select from Elai's 450+ voices and enable auto-translation to produce a new language version.
- Warning: Elai supports voice cloning in 28 languages; HeyGen does not publish a separate language count for its voice-clone-in-translation feature — verify target language support before committing.
- Warning: Elai voice cloning is plan-gated (1 clone on Team, 3 on Enterprise; not available on Creator or Free); HeyGen voice cloning for translation is also paid-only and costs credits at translation rates (5 credits/min standard, 10 credits/min precision).
- Warning: HeyGen's Proofread mode (review and edit the translated script before rendering) is Enterprise-only on both the web app and API; Elai does not advertise an equivalent manual review step.
- Warning: HeyGen's Free plan caps translation at 3 minutes per video; Elai's Free plan allows only 1 minute of total render per month — both severely limit testing at free tier.
