Both products offer one-click AI audio cleanup aimed at making voice recordings sound studio-quality. Descript calls this 'Studio Sound'; Riverside calls it 'Magic Audio'. Moving from Descript to Riverside: instead of applying Studio Sound in the Descript editor, record or upload into a Riverside project and enable Magic Audio from the AI tools panel — it handles background noise, echo, and voice enhancement in a single pass. Moving from Riverside to Descript: import your raw (pre-enhanced) recording into Descript and apply Studio Sound from the audio effects panel, or let Underlord detect poor audio and apply it automatically. Do not apply both tools to the same audio — double-processing introduces artifacts. If you need to preserve an already-enhanced audio file, export a clean rendered audio track from the source tool before re-importing.
- Warning: Magic Audio on Riverside is gated to Pro and above; the Free plan does not include it. Studio Sound on Descript is also governed by plan-level AI credits and is not fully available on the Free plan.
- Warning: Both tools apply enhancement non-destructively within their respective editors, but the resulting processed audio is not natively portable — exporting and re-importing produces a flattened mixed file, not an editable effect layer in the other tool.

Both products detect and strip verbal fillers (um, uh, like, you know) and dead-air silence from recordings in one automated action. Moving from Descript to Riverside: instead of running Descript's Remove Filler Words and silence-remover tools, open your recording in Riverside's AI tools panel, select 'Remove Fillers' and 'Remove Silences' — both work on the transcript and update the video automatically. Adjustable silence sensitivity is available in Riverside. Moving from Riverside to Descript: import your raw recording (before any Riverside AI cleanup) into Descript and use the Remove Filler Words tool in the transcript toolbar or invoke Underlord to run it automatically. Apply only one tool's cleanup per recording — if Riverside has already removed fillers, re-importing into Descript and running removal again will find little to cut but may re-process boundary frames.

- Warning: Descript surfaces flagged fillers one-by-one in the transcript so users can selectively keep or cut; Riverside's Remove Fillers is a bulk operation with less selective control. Teams needing fine-grained review should stay on Descript for this step.
- Warning: Silence removal thresholds are configurable in Riverside but not explicitly tunable in Descript's standard UI — Descript removes gaps according to a fixed internal threshold, which may be too aggressive for music or ambient-sound content.
Both products support multi-participant remote recording where each participant's audio and video are captured on separate tracks. Moving from Descript to Riverside: instead of inviting guests to a Descript Room, send them a Riverside session link — they join in-browser with no download required and record locally on their own device, then Riverside uploads each track individually to the cloud. This local-record/cloud-upload architecture is Riverside's main differentiator for reliability. Moving from Riverside to Descript: create a Descript Room session, invite participants via link, and each participant's track records to its own Descript multitrack layer. For historical recordings, export individual participant tracks from Riverside (available on paid plans) as separate files and import them into a Descript multitrack project for editing. Screen recording is natively supported in Descript (desktop app); Riverside does not offer native screen recording in the same way.

Both products auto-detect high-engagement moments in a long recording and produce short, caption-ready social clips. Moving from Descript to Riverside: instead of triggering Underlord's social-clip generation inside Descript, upload your finished or raw long-form recording to Riverside and run Magic Clips from the AI panel — it returns clips already captioned and ready to post. Choose aspect ratio and duration for each target platform. Moving from Descript to Riverside, export the source video from Descript first (MP4) then upload to Riverside, since Descript project files are not portable. Moving from Riverside to Descript: download the long-form recording from Riverside and import it into a Descript project, then use Underlord's social-clip generation to propose and export clips. Riverside Magic Clips is available on the Free plan (with watermark); Descript's Underlord clip generation requires Creator or above and consumes AI credits.

Both products let users edit video and audio by editing the transcript — deleting, cutting, and pasting text removes or reorders the corresponding media. The core workflow maps directly between the two. Moving from Descript to Riverside: import your source media files into a Riverside project (MP4 or audio), wait for auto-transcription to complete, then make the same text edits in Riverside's transcript editor. Moving from Riverside to Descript: download the source recording tracks from Riverside (individual per-participant files are available on paid plans), import them into a Descript project, and re-edit using the Descript transcript. Neither platform imports the other's edit decisions — all cuts must be re-applied manually in the destination tool. Descript's text-based editing is available on both its desktop app (Mac/Windows) and the browser editor; Riverside's is browser-only.
