To shift web-based autonomous tasks from Copilot to Perplexity: install Comet (Mac/Windows/iOS/Android), describe the goal in plain language in the side panel, and authorize Gmail/Google Calendar connectors if the task involves email or calendar actions — Comet will navigate and act on pages directly. To shift back to Copilot: redeploy tasks as declarative agents via M365 Agent Builder with the relevant API actions, or use custom engine agents for tasks requiring Azure-hosted orchestration and Teams integration. Copilot Chat is accessed at Microsoft365.com, the M365 Copilot app, or Teams; Perplexity is accessed at perplexity.ai or its mobile apps. To shift daily research and Q&A tasks from Copilot to Perplexity: start using Perplexity's default Search for quick questions and Pro Search for multi-step queries; Deep Research produces structured long-form reports comparable to Copilot's summarization of M365 content. To shift back from Perplexity to Copilot: export the Space's custom instructions and file list, recreate them as a declarative agent in M365 Agent Builder, and deploy to Teams or Outlook. There is no automated export path between the two platforms — migration is a manual copy-and-recreate process.

Perplexity grounds responses in connected external services via its Connectors feature (Gmail, Google Calendar, Outlook, Notion, GitHub, Linear, Google Drive, OneDrive, SharePoint, Dropbox, Box). To shift an org-data-grounded workflow from Copilot to Perplexity: enable the relevant connectors at perplexity.ai/account/connectors (or perplexity.ai/enterprise/app-connectors for Enterprise), authorize each service, then reference connected data in queries (e.g. 'Summarize my unread Gmail threads about Project X'). To return to Copilot: remove Perplexity connector tokens in its account settings; Copilot's Graph grounding re-activates automatically when the M365 Copilot add-on is active. Overlap note: both products can connect to OneDrive/SharePoint and Outlook, so files and email context can be sourced from the same underlying store on either platform.

Copilot Chat sessions live within Microsoft 365 surfaces (Teams, M365.com, Outlook) and conversations are tied to the Microsoft 365 user account and accessible from any M365 surface; Perplexity organizes threads and files into Spaces — named, topic-scoped workspaces with custom instructions, model preferences, and file repositories. To shift project-based knowledge work from Copilot to Perplexity: create a Space for each active project, set Custom Instructions to define the context (e.g. 'You are assisting with the Acme contract renewal'), upload relevant documents, and invite teammates as contributors. Pin threads from research sessions to keep all work grouped. To move back: export Perplexity threads (PDF or Markdown) to OneDrive/SharePoint for reference, then continue work in Copilot Chat or the M365 apps where your files already live.
