Move your team from Perplexity to Gemini.
Each person gets a short interview, then a personalized step-by-step guide showing exactly where their saved work, prompts, and projects land in Gemini — and the few things that need a manual step, walked through. You send one invite; nobody becomes the help desk, and nothing in Perplexity is changed or cancelled. Want to see where you’re paying for both first? Run the free audit.
Both now offer agentic browsing, but in different shapes. Perplexity's Comet is a full standalone agentic web browser (free for any Perplexity account) that performs actions on any page, with Max-tier users selecting the Comet agent's model. Google launched Gemini agentic browsing inside Chrome in Jan 2026 (Gemini takes actions on pages), so this is no longer a Perplexity-only capability - though Comet remains the more mature, dedicated browser. Migrating from Perplexity to Gemini, you keep an agentic-browsing option but Chrome-integrated rather than as a branded browser; Gemini's higher-autonomy agentic tasks (Gemini Agent / Gemini Spark on AI Ultra) run under Gemini's compute-based usage limits rather than a fixed daily request count.
- Warning: Comet is free to all Perplexity accounts including Free - users assume it's gated and may not realize they already have access.
- Warning: Comet's model selection (the agent model behind page actions) is gated to Max ($200/mo); Free/Pro users get a default model.
- Warning: Two distinct Gemini surfaces: the Jan-2026 agentic browsing inside Chrome vs. Gemini Agent / Gemini Spark (Ultra) running higher-autonomy tasks from gemini.google.com - neither is a standalone branded browser like Comet.
- Warning: The older passive Chrome side-panel assistant is distinct from the newer agentic browsing - don't conflate the read-only helper with the action-taking agent.
Both support public share links for individual chats/threads. Gemini share links (g.co/gemini/share/...) are snapshots that may be continued by recipients (unless from a Gem or by under-18 users). Perplexity shares are similarly snapshot links but recipients cannot continue. For real collaboration, Perplexity Spaces (viewer/collaborator roles, email invites) is more capable than anything Gemini offers - Gemini has no multi-user editing primitive. Workspace admin gating applies to Gemini share links on work/school accounts (March 2026 update). Gemini also added Drive-based sharing of conversations (rolled out June 3-8, 2026, Workspace web only, snapshot-based, governed by existing Drive sharing policies and ON by default for admins), giving Gemini a sharing path closer to Workspace-native file collaboration - though it is Workspace-only and not available to free Google accounts.
- Warning: Gemini shared chats from a Gem cannot be continued by recipients - changes the workflow if recipients expected to iterate.
- Warning: Perplexity Pages adds a publication path Gemini lacks (thread -> public article URL). In early 2026 the standalone 'Create a Page' button was temporarily pulled for a rebuild, but Pages remained available via 'Convert to Page' from an existing chat, so it is still a usable publish target - just reached from a thread rather than a blank create button.
- Warning: Workspace admins can disable Gemini public sharing org-wide (March 2026); same applies on Perplexity Enterprise for Spaces.
- Warning: Perplexity Spaces support open-to-whole-org sharing on Enterprise - no Gemini equivalent for org-wide chat collaboration.
Gemini's connector advantage is structural: deep, first-party integration with Gmail, Drive, Docs, Calendar, Keep, Tasks, Maps, YouTube, Flights, Hotels - all generally available, with '@AppName' or auto-routed invocation. Perplexity offers Gmail, Google Calendar, Notion, GitHub (Pro) plus Linear, Outlook, and file-store connectors Drive/SharePoint/OneDrive/Dropbox/Box on Enterprise Pro+. Migrating a Gemini-Workspace-heavy workflow to Perplexity Pro means losing Docs/Sheets/Slides/Maps/YouTube/Tasks integration entirely. Going to Perplexity makes sense when the user values Notion/Linear/GitHub native actions or a non-Google file store.
- Warning: Workspace lock-in is real: Gemini can act on Docs/Sheets/Slides/Tasks/Keep; no other product (including Perplexity) replicates Docs/Slides/Tasks integration today.
- Warning: Perplexity Drive/SharePoint/OneDrive/Dropbox/Box are gated behind Enterprise Pro+, not the $20 consumer Pro plan - many users assume Pro covers these.
- Warning: Perplexity connectors can take actions (send Gmail, create Calendar events, open Linear tickets, draft PRs); Gemini connectors are similarly actionable but live inside the Google ecosystem - cross-vendor agentic action is a Perplexity strength.
- Warning: Gemini removed '@Google Maps' and '@YouTube' invocations in Oct 2025 in favor of transparent auto-routing - older docs and tutorials referencing @-syntax for these apps are stale.
- Warning: Workspace admin gating: enterprise/edu Gemini accounts may have connectors disabled; Perplexity Enterprise admin controls are separate.
Perplexity Spaces is the mature feature here: dedicated workspace with attached files, per-Space custom instructions, model selection, source toggles, and recency filters. Gemini Projects is in limited rollout as of May 2026 and not generally available - heavy Gemini users typically rely on Gems (instructions + Knowledge files) or third-party Chrome extensions (Toolbox for Gemini, Gemini Chat Folders) for folder-style organization. Moving from Perplexity to Gemini, expect to recreate each Space as a Gem (instructions + uploaded Knowledge files) rather than as a chat folder.
- Warning: Gemini Projects is reported but not documented on official Google help pages - do not promise users a 1:1 folder experience on Gemini today.
- Warning: Spaces support multi-user collaboration with viewer/collaborator roles; Gemini Gems and chats do not have native multi-user editing.
- Warning: File limits diverge sharply: Perplexity Pro Spaces hold 50 files, Enterprise Pro up to 500, Enterprise Max up to 5,000; Gemini Gems Knowledge sections have more conservative effective limits and don't share an explicit per-Gem file count.
- Warning: Spaces persist files; Gemini per-chat file uploads are scoped to that chat unless attached to a Gem's Knowledge.
- Warning: There is no direct export-Space import path - migration is manual copy of instructions and re-upload of files.
Gems are a true GPT-style assistant builder (name, persistent system prompt, Knowledge files, plus Google's suite of premade Gems; custom Gems can be shared with named people Drive-style, but there is no public consumer Gem marketplace to browse strangers' Gems). Perplexity's closest equivalent is a Space configured with Custom Instructions plus attached files - it behaves like a reusable persona inside Perplexity but is not a discrete 'assistant' object and likewise has no public marketplace. To migrate a Gem to Perplexity: create a Space, paste the Gem's instructions into Custom Instructions, re-upload the Gem's Knowledge files, and pick a default model. Going the other way (Perplexity to Gemini) is cleaner because Gems is the richer construct.
- Warning: No Gems-style builder exists on Perplexity - flag this asymmetry to users who rely on Gem sharing (per-person Drive-style sharing; note there is no public consumer Gem gallery on either product).
- Warning: Gems can be shared (read-only) via link; Perplexity Spaces share with viewer/collaborator roles but expose the underlying thread history as well - different privacy posture.
- Warning: Premade Gemini Gems (Brainstormer, Career guide, Coding partner, Learning coach, Writing editor) have no Perplexity counterpart - users must rebuild from scratch.
- Warning: Gems shared chats cannot be continued by recipients; Perplexity shared threads also cannot be continued by non-Space members.
- Warning: Default model is selectable per Space on Perplexity but not per Gem - Gem responses always use the user's currently selected Gemini model.
Deep Research head-to-head: Gemini Deep Research is plan-gated (5 reports/month Free; paid tiers AI Plus/Pro/Ultra get progressively higher allowances under Gemini's compute-based limits, not fixed per-day counts) with optional Gmail/Drive/Chat grounding and a 2026 'Deep Research Max' tier (built on Gemini 3.1 Pro, ~160 searches and 100+ sources per task, combinable with MCP/URL Context/Code Execution). Perplexity Deep Research was sharply cut between Nov 2025 and Feb 2026 - Pro is now capped at ~20 runs/MONTH (not the old ~500/day), with Free even lower; it cannot pull from private Gmail/Drive unless connectors are enabled. Use Gemini when you need research grounded in your own Workspace data or higher monthly volume; use Perplexity Max only when you specifically want its multi-model report generation.
- Warning: Gemini Deep Research can optionally include Gmail/Drive/Chat - powerful but means private data flows into the research; Perplexity needs explicit connector grants for the same.
- Warning: Gemini Deep Research Max (launched 2026-04-21) shipped via Gemini API public preview first; consumer Pro/Ultra rollout cadence is not pinned on official help docs.
- Warning: Perplexity Pro Deep Research is now ~20 runs/month (some report as low as ~4/month) after the Feb-2026 cut - the older ~500/day figure is stale and must not be quoted.
- Warning: Both produce long-form reports with citations - format and chart/infographic support differs (Gemini added 2026 chart support; Perplexity has had richer charts longer).
- Neither product imports the other's research artifacts - migration is copy/paste or PDF export.
Both accept PDF, Office, images, audio, video. Gemini per-prompt: 10 files, 100 MB each (videos up to 2 GB), plus full GitHub repo or code folder up to 5,000 files / 100 MB. Perplexity per-thread: 10 files, ~40 MB each (consumer); Spaces persist 50 (Pro) / 500 (Enterprise Pro) / 5,000 (Enterprise Max) files. For repository-scale code analysis Gemini is the right destination; for long-lived research file libraries Perplexity Spaces wins.
- Warning: Gemini's 100 MB per non-video file is on the official help page; older third-party sources cite 20 MB (web) / 15 MB (mobile) - confirm before quoting.
- Warning: Perplexity per-file MB cap is inconsistent across sources (25/40/50 MB) - re-verify against the help center for the destination plan.
- Warning: Gemini context window varies by tier (32K Basic / 128K AI Plus / 1M AI Pro+Ultra / 192K Deep Think); Perplexity does not publish equivalent per-tier context numbers - long-document workflows can fail silently on Perplexity Free.
- Warning: Gemini supports GitHub repo upload natively; Perplexity has a GitHub connector (Pro+) but it's an API integration, not a repo upload.
- Warning: Perplexity temporary thread uploads auto-delete after 7 days; Gemini chat-scoped files persist as long as the chat exists. Plan retention accordingly.
Image generation: Gemini has first-party image generation (the 'Nano Banana' model lineage - Nano Banana 2 / Gemini 3.1 Flash Image is the default since Feb 2026, with Nano Banana Pro for high-quality / legible-text work) integrated into the chat surface. Allowances scale by tier under Gemini's compute-based usage limits (Free standard; Plus 2x; Pro 4x; Ultra 5x/20x) rather than fixed per-day counts. Perplexity routes image generation to third-party providers (typically Flux, DALL-E, or Imagen depending on plan) and exposes it as a thread action rather than a first-party model family. For high-volume, model-tuned image work (especially with the Nano Banana series' editing features) Gemini wins; on Perplexity, image gen is a convenience layer on top of someone else's model.
- Warning: Perplexity image gen quality and model choice depend on which provider is routed - results are less predictable than Gemini's first-party Imagen/Nano Banana.
- Warning: Gemini also has native video generation (now primarily via Gemini Omni, with Veo 3.1 as the legacy model) - Perplexity has no native video generation as of May 2026.
- Warning: Nano Banana editing features (multi-turn image editing with consistent characters) have no Perplexity equivalent.
- Warning: Image-generation quotas on Gemini are explicit and per-day; Perplexity's caps are not consistently published.
Both products keep a searchable chat history (Gemini Apps Activity / Perplexity Library) and both offer a separate cross-conversation memory layer (Gemini personalization-from-past-chats / Perplexity Memory). Gemini's auto-delete options (3/18/36 months or never) are more granular than Perplexity's clear-all toggle. To migrate, export critical past chats first - Gemini via Canvas 'Export to Docs', Perplexity via thread PDF/Markdown export - because there's no cross-product history import.
- Warning: Gemini Apps Activity off retains chats only 72 hours (for safety review) - users who disable it lose history entirely; Perplexity Incognito mode is per-thread and does not affect overall Library.
- Warning: Gemini personalization-from-past-chats is an opt-in separate from Apps Activity; Perplexity Memory is a single toggle in Settings - different mental models.
- Warning: Deleting a Gemini chat also deletes its Canvas docs and built apps; Perplexity thread deletion doesn't currently cascade into Pages or Labs artifacts in the same way.
- Warning: No automated import path for chat history between products - manual export/copy only.
Both have side-by-side authoring surfaces, but they serve different output goals. Gemini Canvas is an iterative editing workspace producing Google Docs / Slides / runnable apps via 'Export to Docs', 'Export to Slides', or 'Copy contents'. Perplexity Pages is a publication surface that turns a thread into a polished public article at a shareable URL; Labs canvas produces spreadsheets/dashboards/mini-apps. To migrate a Canvas doc to Perplexity, export to Docs and import as a file into a Space, or copy contents into a new Page draft. To migrate a Page to Gemini, copy contents into a Canvas session and iterate from there.
- Warning: Gemini Canvas exports to Google Docs/Slides natively - no equivalent direct Word/Notion export from Perplexity Pages (Pages publishes to a URL only).
- Warning: Pages export limitations were criticized in 2026 third-party reporting; expect Markdown/PDF only for threads, not Pages.
- Warning: Gemini Canvas slide generation has no fixed per-day cap (it draws on Gemini's compute-based usage limits, which scale Free->Plus->Pro->Ultra); Perplexity has no slide-generation equivalent.
- Warning: Labs outputs (spreadsheets, mini-apps) overlap with Canvas runnable-apps - but Labs runs autonomously for 10+ minutes while Canvas is interactive.
- Warning: Pages indexable URLs make them SEO-visible; Canvas exports go to Drive (private by default).
Migrate Gemini 'Saved info' bullet-by-bullet into Perplexity's AI Profile under Settings > Profile (perplexity.ai/account): self-introduction, preferred tone/format, interests, location, language. Gemini's 'Custom Instructions' field maps directly to Perplexity's response-formatting/tone fields. Going the other direction, paste your Perplexity AI Profile blob into Gemini Settings > Personalization > Saved info, then add stylistic preferences under Custom Instructions. Both apply globally outside incognito/temporary sessions.
- Warning: Gemini exposes three distinct surfaces (Saved info, Custom Instructions, Gems) while Perplexity collapses everything into a single AI Profile blob - granularity is lost moving from Gemini to Perplexity.
- Warning: Gemini personalization can pull from Gmail/Drive/Calendar via Apps Activity once enabled; Perplexity's AI Profile is purely self-declared text.
- Warning: Google explicitly warns against storing sensitive data (passwords, addresses, financials) in Saved info; Perplexity does not give the same surfaced warning but the same hygiene applies.
- Warning: Perplexity Incognito and Gemini Temporary chats both bypass personalization - users moving 'sensitive' workflows should know each product's escape hatch.
Map roughly by price tier: Gemini Free <-> Perplexity Free; Google AI Plus ($7.99, repriced from $9.99 at I/O 2026) <-> nothing direct (Perplexity Education Pro $10/mo is student-verified only, renewing at $4.99/mo for prior education subscribers); Google AI Pro ($19.99) <-> Perplexity Pro ($20); Google AI Ultra <-> Perplexity Max ($200/mo or $2,000/yr). Gemini AI Ultra now sells as a $100/mo entry tier (5x Pro limits) plus a $200/mo premium tier (20x Pro limits, cut from $249.99); both include 20 TB storage. Enterprise: Perplexity Enterprise Pro ($40/seat/mo or $400/yr) and Enterprise Max ($325/seat/mo or $3,250/yr) have no direct Gemini consumer equivalent - the analog is Gemini for Workspace (priced per Workspace seat, separate SKU). At $20, Pro vs AI Pro is the most common decision: pick AI Pro for Workspace integration, 1M context, a high image-gen quota, and 5 TB storage; pick Perplexity Pro for the multi-model picker and Comet - but note Perplexity Pro Deep Research is now capped at ~20/month after the Feb-2026 cut. Google is also moving Gemini from daily prompt limits to compute-based limits that reset every five hours up to a weekly cap.
- Warning: Gemini AI Ultra was repriced at I/O 2026 (May 2026) and now lists at a $100/mo entry tier (5x Pro limits) plus a $200/mo premium tier (20x Pro limits, down from $249.99) - older $249.99 quotes are stale.
- Warning: Perplexity Pro at $20 unlocks all main models (e.g. GPT-5.4, Claude Sonnet 4.6, Gemini 3.1 Pro, Kimi K2.5; Claude Opus 4.6 on Max) - users sometimes pay $20 for Perplexity to use Gemini's model rather than going to Google.
- Warning: Gemini AI Pro now includes 5 TB storage across Gmail/Drive/Photos (up from 2 TB) plus YouTube Premium Lite, and AI Plus includes 400 GB with family sharing for up to 5; Perplexity Pro has no comparable bundle.
Both products ground answers in live web search with inline citations. Perplexity is search-first with explicit modes (Search, Pro Search, Deep Research, Labs) and focus filters (web/academic/social/finance/video); Gemini grounds via Google Search and exposes Deep Research as a distinct mode rather than the default. For 'what is the current state of X' queries either works; for finance/academic-filtered or social-citation-required workflows, Perplexity's focus filters have no Gemini equivalent. For Google-indexed answers benefiting from the full Google Search corpus, Gemini's grounding is typically deeper.
- Warning: Perplexity exposes a model picker in every search mode (e.g. GPT-5.4, Claude Sonnet 4.6, Gemini 3.1 Pro, Sonar, Kimi K2.5; plus Claude Opus 4.6 on Max) - Gemini uses only Google models.
- Warning: Gemini's grounded citations are inline links; Perplexity numbers and aggregates sources at the top - bibliography style differs and affects copy/paste output.
- Warning: Free-tier search caps differ: Perplexity Free = 3 Pro Searches/day; Gemini Free has no explicit 'Pro Search' analog but does cap Deep Research at 5/month.
- Warning: Perplexity Labs (agentic, builds artifacts like spreadsheets and mini-apps) has no direct Gemini equivalent; closest analog is Gemini Canvas + Agent (Ultra only).
